This week the RoboComic looks at some new alien fighting hardware.
OK I admit that the title of this entry sounds like something youd see on local access channels at 3 in the morning or maybe the Hour of Power shows that come on Sunday mornings. But that’s not what I’m talking about here. What I’m talking about is how my prayers were dashed over Alien vs. Predator recently released by Rebellion and SEGA.
I’m pretty pissed that they didn’t give this title enough time to simmer and instead flung an undercooked meal to all the fans. A property as awesome as Aliens and Predator has no excuse to not turn out an awesome video game. There have been alot of terrible movie to game translations, sure, but in this case Alien versus Predator was already shown to be successful with the very first AvP PC game from Fox and Rebellion. So what the hell happened?
I don’t know whether this is a case of the game being rushed/over budget but they clearly didn’t give it the time it deserved and now the fans are left with a steaming pile of slag.
Fortunatley there is a bright spot on the horizon – Aliens: Colonial Marines from Gearbox – the same guys that do Borderlands. This co-op focused first person shooter based on the Alien universe, most notably the film Aliens will put players in the role of the Colonial Marine on a mission to investigate the U.S.S. Sulaco in search of Ellen Ripley, Corporal Dwayne Hicks, and the rest of the missing marines who were dispatched to LV-426.
Sounds awesome - I’m going to put my money on Gearbox pulling it off. They did a fantastic job with Borderlands – I think they can redeem the Alien game franshise for us gamers. Too bad we won’t be seeing the predators any time soon though – sorry crab face.
